2009 Tripower CX
Virginia State Cyclocross Championships
Thanks to everyone who made this race a success: Jamie Schaubach for the venue, Walt Gardner of Conte's Newport News, 94.9 Point Radio, David Conte of Conte's VB and Rick Young of Bikebeat for prizes, and the volunteers and racers.
The story of the day (aside from the quicksand or the molasses) was in the Men's 1/2 race where Tom Jeffrey dominated with a huge lead lapping all but Stoop.
Meanwhile, a bit further back in that race another battle waged as fatigued race promoter Mike Hosang tried to hold off mom of two and pro racer, Dee Dee Winfield. Earlier in the day Hosang had placed 2nd in the masters 35+ race and Dee Dee had won the women's race.
Later we may have felt a little guilty having cheered Dee Dee on so strongly, but she's hard not to cheer for. As Hosang quipped later that evening, "I cracked with 2 to go and she didn't. She is a bad mambajamba!"
